Song A Day: Journey

I am an ORIGINAL Journey fan. My devotion to the band goes wayyyyy back. My children are also huge Journey fans due to their mother's love and influence.

My #1 favorite Journey song? Open Arms!!! (Faithfully is a very close 2nd.) I saw Journey in concert at BYU back in early 1983. Bryan Adams opened for them--he was a "nobody" then. It was a most excellent show. I was in about the 3rd row on the floor! My boyfriend had broken up with me a month or so before the concert, so I was feeling pretty smug when they started singing this song. I turned around to the masses because I knew he was up in the stands somewhere, with my arms opened wide singing at the top of my lungs as if to say, "Nah, nah, nah! You may have broken my heart, but who's down in the 3rd row of this concert basking in the glow of Journey?!" It was a pretty satisfying moment. Thank you, Journey, for always being true to my heart, and thank you Open Arms for always making my heart skip a beat when you play!

Song A Day: Sing to Me!

What girl wouldn't LOVE to have a handsome, sweet boy sing these words to her?

Make You Feel My Love by Adele

When the rain's blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I would offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love

When the evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

I know you haven't made your mind up yet
But I would never do you wrong
I've known it from the moment that we met
So no doubt in my mind where you belong

I'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling down the avenue
There ain't nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

The storms are raging on a rolling sea
And down the highway of regret
The winds of change are blowing wild and free
But you ain't seen nothin' like me yet

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true
Nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends of the earth for you
To make you feel my love
To make you feel my love.

What can I say? I'm a HOPELESS romantic!

Song A Day: New Favorite

This isn't a new song, but I've been listening to it a lot lately and it's just so beautiful. It's my new favorite:
18th Floor Balcony by Blue October

I close my eyes and I smile
Knowing that everything is alright
To the core
So close that door
Is this happening?
My breath is on your hair
I'm unaware
That you opened the blinds and let the city in
God, you held my hand
And we stand
Just taking in everything.

And I knew it from the start
So my arms are open wide
Your head is on my stomach
And we're, we're trying so hard not to fall asleep

But here we are
On this 18th floor balcony...
We're both flying away.

So we talked about mom's and dad's
About family pasts
Just getting to know where we came from
Our hearts were on display
For all to see
I can't believe this is happening to me and,
I raised my hand as if to show you that I was yours
That I was so yours for the taking
I'm so yours for the taking and
That's when I felt the wind pick up
I grabbed the rail while choking up
These words to say and then you kissed me... (yeah)
I knew from the start
My arms are open wide
Your head is on my stomach
And we're, we're trying so hard not to fall asleep

But here we are
On this 18th floor balcony...
We're both flying away

And I'll try to sleep
to keep you in my dreams
'Till I can bring you home with me
I'll try to sleep
and when i do I'll keep you in my...dreams

I knew it from the start
So my arms are open wide
And your head is on my stomach
And we're, we're trying so hard not to fall asleep
So here we are
On this 18th floor balcony...

Yeah
I knew it from the start
So my arms are open wide
Your head is on my stomach
No...We're not going to sleep
Here we are
On this 18th floor baclony...
We're both flying away.

Song A Day: My Momma

Take Me Home Country Roads
Rocky Mountain High
Thank God I'm a Country Boy
Sunshine On My Shoulders
Leaving On a Jet Plane
Grandma's Feather Bed

I still know all the lyrics to these songs. I grew up on these songs and many more by John Denver. He was my mom's favorite! I remember my brother and I buying her one of his albums for her birthday or for Christmas and she was thrilled. All of John Denver's music was fun, down-home, and mellow. I had a wonderful childhood and if hearing these songs brings me back to that age of innocence, then all the better. This one's for you, Mom. I love you!!

Song A Day: Kiana

"Do you remember the 21st night of September?" I certainly do! That was the day my third baby girl was born. I love the song September by Earth, Wind and Fire. It's not only an awesome song, one you can't possibly sit still through, but it is my song for my Kiana.
I love you, Kiana!!

Song A Day: Favorite Hymn

I am a very religious person. I don't just attend my church meetings every Sunday. My faith and religion define me. It is my life and who I am. I love the hymns we sing. It is such a wonderful way to worship. So many of our hymns really touch me deeply--not only the music, but especially the lyrics. One of my most favorites is How Great Thou Art. I can never get all the way through singing this song without welling up. The words express my love, awe, humility and love for my Lord, all that He has done, and all that He has done for me. I love it!

How Great Thou Art

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

Song A Day: Flashback

Philadelphia Freedom by Elton John

It's been a while. I was off on vacation and had my niece Maren and nephew Lawry here for a visit. During my hiatus, though, we had the 4th of July. We spent the evening with some dear friends at their home in Santa Rosa. We were able to watch the fireworks while sitting in their backyard around the fire pit. Glorious! Afterward. we were inside playing games. Philadelphia Freedom came on the radio and all us old folks started bopping to it and singing along. I immediately flashed back to Girls' Camp when I was about 12 years old. I remember the older girls listening to this song on their radio in the cabin. It was a great memory, and this is a fun song. Happy Birthday, America! I love you!
